Studies on postharvest biology and technology have made great contributions to the improvement of postharvest handling and preservation of good quality of horticultural crops during transport and storage. Significant contributions towards minimizing postharvest losses have been made through research on physiological changes in crops after storage, new long life varieties, suitable cultivation circumstances, optimum harvesting indices, recommended storage conditions, precooling refrigerated transport and careful handling.
